Speak Simple

From the pastor to you:
People share their thoughts and hearts through conversation. Yet those who truly care about others do not feel the need to speak in complicated ways, because their focus is not on themselves but on the one who is listening. Out of love and consideration, they choose words that are gentle, simple, and easy to understand—so the message can be received, not just spoken. On the other hand, those who are centered on themselves often speak in unnecessarily complex ways. Their concern is not whether others can understand, but whether they can showcase all that they know. The emphasis is on expressing themselves rather than serving the listener.
Jesus never spoke that way. His words were not wrapped in complexity or intellectual pride. When we look at His teachings, we see parables drawn from daily life—seeds sown by a farmer, a house built on a rock, a shepherd searching for his lost sheep. His words were always simple, clear, relatable, and full of life. The difficulty does not come from Jesus; it comes from us. We are the ones who turn simple truth into something complicated. Today, may we speak with humility and clarity, considering others. Let our words be simple enough to be understood and gentle enough to be received. For no matter how much knowledge we think we possess, in the eyes of God, it is still no more than a speck of dust.
Grace and Peace,
Rev. Won D. Kim
