A Journey through Ruth

Dear RockSpring Church Family,

Beginning this Friday, we will begin a journey together through the Book of Ruth. Ruth does not begin with a beautiful story. It begins with loss, death, and deep sorrow within a family. Yet as we walk through Ruth, we discover that even in the moments when God seems silent, He is still working. Sometimes our lives feel the same way. There are seasons when we do not understand what is happening, where God is leading us, or why certain things are happening to our families. But Ruth reminds us that God is working even when we cannot see His hand. Ruth also invites us to think deeply about the meaning of family. Family is not a place where everything is perfect. It is a place where we learn to love, remain faithful, carry one another’s burdens, and walk together through difficult seasons.

But above all, Ruth points us to Jesus Christ. The story of Ruth eventually leads to David’s family line and ultimately to Jesus Christ, our true Redeemer. What begins as the story of one broken family becomes part of God’s greater story of redemption. As we begin this study, I pray that we will not simply learn about Ruth, but that we will see God at work in our own stories.

May we learn to trust His providence, cherish our families, remain faithful in difficult seasons, and look to Jesus the One who restores, redeems, and makes all things new. There may be parts of our own stories that we do not understand yet. But remember: God is not finished with your story. Even when you cannot see Him, God is still working.
