In a cold and uncertain moment

From the Pastor to you.

Recently, I received an urgent call from someone I once pastored many years ago. With a heavy heart, they shared, “Pastor, the mother of our grandchildren left home, and we haven’t heard from her. It’s so cold outside. The children are just waiting and praying for their mom to come home.” While it is possible that a friend may have picked her up, there are still many uncertainties surrounding the situation. For this reason, the family has reported the matter to the local police as a missing person case, and they are asking for my prayers—for her safety, for peace, and for God’s guidance in the midst of many unknowns.

As I listened, my heart ached. I found myself wondering—what might have weighed so heavily on her heart? What thoughts and fears were swirling within her that led her to leave? Only God truly knows. And so I pray: that the Lord would quiet her restless heart, steady her troubled mind, and gently lead her back—holding fast to Him even in the midst of hardship and pain. “The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit” (Psalm 34:18, ESV).

Today, I ask you to join me in prayer. Please pray that this mother will be found safe and unharmed, and that God’s protecting hand would be upon her. Though I cannot share names, God knows this family well. If you have time, please remember this family before the Lord. As we pray, perhaps the Spirit is also inviting us to look at our own homes. The people who are always with us—our children, our parents, our husbands and wives—can sometimes be taken for granted simply because they are always there. What if today we offered a word of love and kindness? A gentle “thank you.” A quiet “I love you.” In a cold and uncertain world, may the church be a place of prayer, compassion, and gentle love.
