Day 20: The Crowd in the Temple Court
Scripture Reading: John 7:14-24
In the temple courts, many people were amazed at Jesus’ teaching. They recognized His wisdom, yet they struggled to accept Him because He did not come through the traditional systems of authority. Their expectations about how God should work prevented them from seeing what God was actually doing right in front of them.
Jesus reveals an important spiritual truth: understanding God is not only about knowledge, but about the willingness to do God’s will. When the heart is open and obedient, the truth becomes clear. But when the heart is hardened by assumptions, pride, or prejudice, even the clearest truth can be missed.
This passage invites us to examine our own hearts. Are we judging Jesus by appearances, traditions, or preconceived ideas? Or are we humbly seeking God’s will so that we may recognize His voice? True discernment begins not with criticism, but with a heart that is ready to obey God.
Prayer:
Divine Judge, before whom all my thoughts are laid bare, draw me to you even as I depend on your grace and mercy. Where I must judge, help me to see pasto appearances and into the heart of the matter. Give me resove as well as tenderness as I relate to people bearing your image.
Grace and Peace,
