Day 15: “The Jews in the Temple Court”
Scripture Reading: John 10:22–39
In the temple courts during the Feast of Dedication, the Jewish leaders surround Jesus and demand clarity: “If you are the Christ, tell us plainly.” At first glance, their request seems reasonable. They appear to be seeking the truth. Yet Jesus reveals that the real issue is not lack of information but lack of faith. He tells them that His works already testify about Him, but they do not believe because they are not His sheep. This passage reminds us that unbelief is rarely caused by insufficient evidence; more often it is the result of a closed heart.
Jesus then speaks one of the most comforting promises in Scripture: “My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” Faith is not merely intellectual agreement but a relational response to the Shepherd’s voice. Those who belong to Christ recognize His voice through His Word, trust His guidance, and follow Him even when the path is uncertain. In a world filled with competing voices, culture, fear, ambition, and doubt, the disciple of Jesus must continually learn to discern the voice of the Good Shepherd.
Finally, Jesus’ declaration, “I and the Father are one,” reveals the heart of the gospel. The One speaking in the temple courts is not merely a teacher or prophet but the very Son of God. This claim provokes hostility and even an attempt to stone Him. The same division still exists today: some hear His voice and follow Him, while others reject Him. The question for every believer is deeply personal: Are we truly listening to the voice of the Shepherd, or are we demanding that God fit our expectations before we believe? True discipleship begins when we humbly recognize His voice and choose to follow Him.
Pray:
Lord I confess you as the Word of God in whom I have eternal life. May the quality of my life now be measured by this, your eternal kingdom, which you are bringing to earth faithfully, day by day.
Grace and Peace,
