Day 1: The True Light
Scripture Reading: John 1:9-13
Dear Friends,
As we begin this journey through Jesus the Stranger, I invite you to pause with me today and reflect on John’s words about Jesus: “The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world” (John 1:9). What a beautiful, yet sobering truth! The Word of God, who existed before time itself, stepped into our world—not as a distant figure, but as the light that illuminates every corner of our hearts. This light is not merely symbolic. It is personal, alive, and present. Jesus came to reveal God to us, to guide our steps, and to shine in the places of darkness we often try to hide—even from ourselves. And yet, the Gospel reminds us that not all recognized Him. Some rejected Him, some missed the moment, some simply didn’t understand. There is both mystery and grace in this paradox: the light is offered freely, yet we must choose to receive it.
Friends, the invitation today is simple but profound: to welcome Jesus, the true light, into our lives—not only in times of clarity or joy but also in moments of doubt, fear, or weariness. To receive Him is to become a child of God, part of a family whose roots are eternal. Let us reflect on where we may have resisted this light, and where we can open our hearts more fully to it. As we step into this Lenten journey together, may we not only see Jesus with our eyes but encounter Him with our hearts. May His light shine on the parts of our lives that long for truth, hope, and peace. And may we, in turn, become a reflection of that light for others who walk in darkness.
Prayer:
Heavenly Father, I accept your invitation to this special journey of discovery and transformation, centered on the life and love of your Son, Jesus Christ. May your great story become my story, as I confess his name and receive the right to be called your child.
With love and prayer,
Rev. Won Kim
